Rugby in Broomfield Park
Southgate RFC has moved to Broomfield Park, bringing exciting opportunities for local children to discover rugby, make friends and develop new skills.
Fresh from celebrating its centenary, Southgate Rugby Football Club has brought its full club to Palmers Green, with a particular welcome for boys and girls aged 3–12. The club aims to make rugby accessible to everyone, regardless of experience, background, shape or size.
For younger children, rugby begins with non-contact tag rugby, with contact introduced gradually from under-9 level. Experienced coaches focus on introducing the game as safely as possible, while helping children develop fitness, confidence, teamwork and respect for others.
The club places great importance on rugby’s social values. Sportsmanship is central to the game, with teams applauding each other after matches and food provided by the home side – helping make playing rugby about friendship and enjoyment as well as competition.
When and where can children play?
Southgate RFC trains at Broomfield Park on the large field next to the children’s playground, in front of the concrete steps.
- Sundays, 10am: Children of all ages, 3–12.
- Wednesdays, 6–7pm: Children aged 8–12.
- Your first session is free – just turn up!

Rugby for adults, too
The move also brings opportunities for adults of all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced players. Southgate’s senior teams play social, competitive rugby, with enjoyment and ensuring everyone gets a game at the heart of the club. There are also regular fixtures for players aged 35 and over, offering a sociable way to stay active and enjoy the game.
Adult training takes place on Wednesdays, 7.15–8.30pm.
Southgate RFC’s arrival adds a new sporting dimension to Broomfield Park, making use of the large field for a game that can bring together children, families and adults across the local community.
