Help shape the future of Broomfield Park -
for the whole community
Saturday 25th October 2025
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION EVENT
The "Unlocking Broomfield" project is about Broomfield House, a grand old building from the 1560s, located in the park. It was badly damaged by fires in the 1980s and 1990s and has been empty ever since. Experts now say it's too damaged to rebuild. So instead, the focus will be:
- Remembering the house
- Telling its story
- Improving the park with the help of the community
Join us in the Park on 25th October from 11:00 am, to see and comment on the Concept Design for Broomfield House which has been created following initial consultation and workshops
- What will happen?
The damaged remains of Broomfield House will be carefully taken down
The scaffolding around it will be removed
Local people will help decide how to remember the house
The park will get new signs, gardens, and stories about the past
A special Baroque water garden will be created
Salvaged parts of the house may be reused for memorial features
- How long will it take?
The full project should be completed by 2028
- Who is paying for this?
The National Lottery Heritage Fund is supporting the project, using money raised by National Lottery players.
- How much will it cost?
£530,000 has already been received for planning. This funding will also help us progress our plans for a full National Lottery grant in 2026, to reconnect the house and park through memorials, storytelling, and landscaping.
